5 Ingredient Chili

Chilly weather means chili in the pot and this 5 ingredient chili is fast and easy. It tastes like it cooked all day but only took a few minutes to throw together. Perfect to top with sour cream or onions or both! I love to pour mine over a bed of Frito’s Corn Chips and just dig in on a cool day. Try it with a slice of hot, buttery cornbread!
All In the Prep
Prepping for this 5 ingredient chili is pretty simple. You will love how easily this recipe comes together, especially for those nights where you need the most flavor in the shortest amount of time. None of us has an unlimited amount of time on our hands and sometimes quick meals are a must. It just doesn’t have to taste quick.

First, let’s chop some onions. I prefer cooking with yellow and eating the white ones raw but I must admit, the white onions really stand out in chili. You can rough chop them but keep the pieces small enough for bite-size.
Brown your ground beef in a large saucepan. If you prefer using ground turkey, it works great. Just remember that you will have to add oil to the pan first.

Remove the cooked meat from the pan and set aside. Discard all but about a tablespoon or two of the grease and add the onion to the pot. Saute the onion for about 4 to 5 minutes until they are soft. You can start seeing that they are getting clear. I like seeing just a little browning, as well. The smells are wonderful.
Work Your Chili Magic!
Add the canned beans and tomatoes. Don’t drain the liquid. You will need it in the chili. Use any kind of bean you like in this recipe. I used Ranch Style beans the other day with this 5 ingredient chili, but a couple of weeks ago my husband used red kidney beans. It was great both ways.

Add the chili powder and stir to combine. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat to simmer and cover for about 10 minutes. The sauce thickens and gets richer as it cooks.
